Originally from Edmonton, John played in the BC Premier League with Revelstoke and Penticton, as well as American Legion Baseball in Sandpoint, Idaho prior to being recruited to the U.S. to play collegiately. His college career included playing at Solano College in Fairfield, CA, North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene, ID and Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, ID.

John completed his degree in Kinesiology-Sports Administration with minors in Health and Coaching while working under the legendary collegiate coach Ed Cheff , as a graduate assistant pitching coach at Lewis-Clark State. During this period of time, he assisted in pitching camps featuring Kevin Matthews (former Lewis-Clark State pitching coach), Mel Stottlemyre Jr. (former Arizona Diamondbacks pitching coach) and Mel Stottlemyre Sr. (former longtime New York Yankees pitching coach). Ten years of additional coaching experience began in the summers during college baseball.  These jobs included head and assistant coaching positions in American Legion and high school baseball in Cranbrook and Creston, BC as well as Asotin and Spokane, WA. 

John spent 2 years working as an Account Executive with the Edmonton Oilers/Oil Kings/Capitals Group and brings to the Edmonton Prospects experience in Media Relations, Marketing, Game Day Operations, Facility Operations and Player Assisting that he acquired in his work with the Edmonton Capitals. John works in a full-time position with SAS Sports Marketing/Edmonton Prospects Summer Collegiate Baseball Club as Head Coach & Director of Sales / Ticketing. His job duties consist of sponsor acquisition and ticket sales during the off-season as well as head coaching and recruiting duties for the summer.

In his spare time, John plans to continue to assist with instruction for the Prospects Academy, part of the Alberta Collegiate Baseball Foundation, with its indoor instructional program for elite youth baseball players as well as its various instructional camp initiatives at Athletes Nation in St. Albert.
