Prospects Sweep Opening Weekend over ABA Including a No-Hitter!

The Prospects started off the year with a three-game sweep over ABA (Absolute Baseball Academy) from Calgary.

Game 1 saw the Prospects come out blazing and earn a 13-3 victory.  The pitching staff combined on a no-hitter with Jackson Wark earning the win.  He notched 8 strikeouts in 3 innings of work while walking 3.  Luke Roberts threw 1 inning, giving up 3 runs on 6 walks.  Connor Burns closed things out with 1 shutout inning while recording 2 strikeouts.  Kobe Hyland led the way offensively going 2-4 with 4 RBI.  Dylan Gates (2-3, 2 RBI, 3B, 2B), Aidan Huggins (2-3 2 RBI, 2B), Kurt Meeberg (2-3, 2 RBI, 2B) also had very strong showings at the plate.  Darcy Affleck was 1-3 with an RBI, while Logan Harvey and Jeremie Arsenau each added an RBI apiece.

The Academy won game 2 on Saturday by a score of 14-1.  Dylan Gates was very strong on the mound getting the win.  In his 4 innings of work he gave up 1 run on 2 hits while walking 4 and striking out 5.  Darcy Affleck closed things out with 1 shutout inning while walking 1 and striking out 1.  Jackson Campbell (2-2 2B, 3B, 2 RBI, SB), Aidan Huggins (2-3, 2 RBI) Jaret Semeniuk (2-2) all led the way offensively.  Erik Sabrowski hit the Prospects' first home run of the season, going 1-3 on the day.  Connor Burns, Kobe Hyland, and Ross Supruniuk all added a hit and an RBI apiece as well.

The final game was a bit of a tougher test but the Academy came out on top with a 10-6 win.  Kurt Meeberg got the start on the mound throwing 2 innings, giving up 1 run while walking 6 and striking out 5.  Ross Supruniuk followed up, pitching 2 innings and gave up 5 runs (just 1 earned) on 4 hits while walking 1 and striking out 1.  Taran Oulton earned the win out of the pen tossing the final three frames.  He gave up just 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 8.  Kobe Hyland (3-3, 4 RBI), Jackson Campbell (3-3, RBI) led the way offensively.  Anthony Owen, Luke Roberts, and Jeremie Arsenau all added hits and RBI's.  Connor Burns also collected 2 RBI.

The Prospects' next action is Tuesday against St. FX at Telus Field at 6:30 pm.
