Prospects Start Season 4-1

Prospects baseball started the 2014 season with a 4-1 record on the road. The Academy went 3-0 against the Okanagan University Coyotes then split with the Okanagan A's.

Game 1 saw Jake Lanferman take a no-hitter into the 5th inning. Jake threw 6 solid innings surrendering one hit with 5 BB, 3 k's, and giving up one run. Tanner Karpinski earned the save tossing a scoreless 7th. Offensively the Prospects only collected 5 hits coming off the bats of Darcy Affleck who was 2-3, Mitchell Hazlett 1-3, Zach Thibault 1-3, and Evan Loranger 1-3. The Prospects took the opener by a score of 3-1.

In game 2 the Spects needed extras to beat the Coyotes by a score of 6-5. Loranger continued his hot streak with 2 hits while Lanferman and Williams also added two hits a piece. The game winning RBI came off the bat of Darcy Affleck who was 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Luke Muise got the start going 5 innings giving up 5 runs on 5 hits. Christian Smith earned the win in extras tossing 3 scorless innings.

Prospects kept rolling as they swept the series in game 3 by a score of 1-0. Connor Burns picked up where he left off in the fall, chucking a complete game with 4 K's and allowing 2 hits to earn the win. Josh Williams was 1-3 and drove in the only run of the game. Logan Harvey was the only player who had multiple hits going 2-2. Muise, Affleck, and Yuzda each added a hit a piece. 

In game 4 vs. the Okanagan A's, the Prospects saw a great pitching performance put in by Taran Oulton wasted as the A's came from behind on their final out. Oulton didn't allow a run through 5 strong innings while fanning 8 hitters. The Prospects sat on 3-0 lead which proved costly in the 4-3 loss. The offence came off the bats of Mitchell Hazlett who was 2-3, Jake Lanferman who was 2-2, and Zach Thibault who also added a hit. 

In the final game of the weekend the bats came alive and saw the Prospects win by a score of 9-2. Offensivley, Luke Muise led the way going 2-4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored. Connor Burns went 2-3 with 2 runs while Jake Lanferman was 2-3 with 2 runs and an RBI. Also adding hits was Evan Loranger, Kobe Hyland, and Ryan Van Snick. Darcy Affleck picked up the victory giving up 2 runs on 4 hits with 2 BB and 2 K's through 4 innings of work. Ryan Bartley and Zach Thibault finished the game throwing 3 scorless innings of baseball.


Next action for the Prospects will be this weekend as they head to Vauxhall to take on the Jets.
