Prospects lose in Semi's of the Best of the West
Prospects Academy goes 2-2 in the prestigious Best of the West Tournament hosted by Big League Experience. The Prospects lost in the semi-finals to a tough Langley Blaze club.
Game 1: First game of the tournament the Prospects faced off against the North Delta Blue Jays winning by a score of 4-1. Emerson Savage led the club and had solid start only going giving up 1 unearned through five innings with 5 K's, 0 BB, and a hit. Andrew Mirasty picked up the win throwing the final 2 innings allowing 0 hits, 2 K's, and 2 BB. Offensively the Prospects had trouble getting anything going until the 7th when Brad Michaleski (1/3, run, 1 K), Keegan Hucul (1/1, rbi, run), and Ethan Elias (1/1, rbi) all had hits as the Prospects went on to score 4 runs to start the tournament 1-0.
Game 2: Game two saw a good mix of offense and pitching as the Academy went on to take the second game of the tournament by a score of 9-0 over the Pro Baseball Force. In cold temperatures, Keegan Hucul got the start and didn't seem to really affect him as he went the complete game going 5 innings with 12 K's, 3 hits, and 0 BB. Kevin Czarnecki (2/2, rbi, run) and Matt Biollo (2/3, 2 runs, SB) both had multi hit games in the contest.
Game 3: Game 3 of the BOW saw the Academy take their first loss of the tournament to Fraser Valley by a score of 4-2. The offence had a few opportunities to score early in the game but didn't capitalize until the 6th and 7th. Travis Steinke (1/3, rbi, K), Brad Michaleski (1/3, run. 2 K's), and Dennis Millar (1/2, BB) all had hits in the game. On the mound Ryan Johnson took the loss allowing 4 runs on 8 hits through 3 1/3. Mclean Cruthers threw 2 2/3 innings of solid relief not allowing a base runner.
Game 4: In the Semi-Finals of the tournament the Prospects were eliminated by the Langley Blaze by a score of 9-0, who eventually ended up going on to win the 2010 Best of the West Tournament. After throwing 2 scoreless innings Langley got to Brad Michaleski in the 3rd scoring 8 runs on 8 hits. The Prospects had base runners on in every inning but couldn't push them across the plate. Mitchell Beaudreau, Travis Steinke, and Kevin Czarnecki all had a hit the game.
The Prospects next action will be in Okotoks, AB as they will face off against the Okotoks Dawgs for a four game set on April 10th and 11th. Game time will be 2pm on Saturday and 11am on Sunday.
