Prospects Go 3-1 in St. FX Telus College Showcase
The Prospects took 3 of 4 on the weekend in the St. FX College Showcase Tournament.
Game 1 saw the Academy come out on top in an extra inning battle over St. FX 4-3. Christian Smith went the distance, throwing 8 innings on just 90 pitches to earn the win. The offence couldn't muster a lot but was able to come up with some timely situational hitting to earn the victory. Triffon Tatarin had a solid day at the plate with a couple hits. Mitchell Hazlett had the game-winning knock in the bottom of the 8th driving in 2 runs.
In Game 2 the Prospects beat Fort McMurray by a score of 15-2. Nick Barrett went 4 strong innings giving up 1 earned run and struck out 5. Jackson Wark went the final 3 innings giving up just one run as well.
In Game 3 the Prospects came out flat and lost 11-1 to Okotoks. The pitching staff walked 11 in just 5 innings and cost them the game. Derek Millar was one of the lone bright spots, with a hit, run scored and a walk.
Game 4 saw the Prospects play much better baseball, beating St. FX 10-4. Jake Keating went 6 strong innings. Mat Brisson threw the final frame, putting up a zero. Several players had solid offensive perfomances on the day. Triffon Tatarin had 2 hits, including a triple and 3 RBI. Connor Burns was 2-3 with a double. Derek Millar, Luke Muise, Darcy Affleck, and Ryan Van Snick, and Mat Brisson also all had multi-hit games.
