The Prospects Academy went 1-3 to open their season down in Lethbridge over the weekend.  Some poor defensive play really hurt the Academy and ultimately cost them a few wins.

Game 1

In game 1 the Prospects lost to PBA 13-6, mostly due to making 9 errors defensively.  Jacob Melville had very little defensive support as he would toss 5 innings, giving up 8 runs (2 earned).  Ross Supruniuk followed that up, throwing 1 inning giving up 5 runs (2 earned).  Owen Bessette led the offense going 1-2 with a triple and 3 RBI.  Kobe Hyland, Jackson Campbell, and Anthony Owne also collected hits.

Game 2

In game 2 the Prospects defense cost them again, this time losing a close decision 8-7 to PBA.  Jackson Wark got the start on the mound, throwing 4 innings and gave up 7 runs (just 3 earned.)  He gave up just 2 hits, while walking 4, and struck out 7 PBA batters.  Luke Roberts was hit with the loss, despite a very strong appearance on the mound.  In his 2.2 innings of work he gave up just 1 run (unearned) on 1 hit while walking 1 and striking out 5.  Jacob Melville led the offense going 1-2 with a double and 2 RBI.  Matt Quartel was 1-3 with a double.  Jackson Campbell was 1-3 with a double and RBI.  Damian Obrigewitch and Anthony Owen also had hits on the day.

Game 3

In the first game of the Sunday doubleheader the Academy beat PBA 16-14, despite holding a 14-0 lead at one point.  Owen Bessette was very strong in his start on the mound tossing 3 shutout innings on 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 3.  Jr. Prospect call up Graham Brunner threw a scoreless 4th frame before the PBA hitters and (Prospects defense) found a way to get PBA back in the game.  Aidan Huggins earned the save on the mound, coming out of the pen to get the final out.  Jacob Melville was 1-4 with a HR and 2 RBI.  Matt Quartel was 2-4 with a triple and 2 RBI.  Aidan Huggins was 2-3 with 3 RBI.  Tauren Langley was 2-4 with a double and 2 RBI.  Jake Fischer was 2-4 with a triple and 2 RBI.  Kobe Hyland, Jeremie Arseneau, and Damian Obrigewitch also all had hits on the day.

Game 4

In the final game of the weekend the Prospects lost 6-4 to Vauxhall.  It was the same old story as 4 errors really cost the Academy.  Connor Burns started on the mound throwing 4 innings and gave up 5 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits, 3 walks, while striking out 1.  Out of the bullpen Taran Oulton threw 3 innings and gave up 1 run on 3 walks, 1 hit, while striking out 2.  Offensively, Matt Quartel led the way going 1-3 with 2 RBI.  Connor Burns, Owen Bessette, Kobe Hyland, and Damian Obrigewitch all had extra base hits.  The Prospects battled back from a 6-1 deficit to make it 6-4 but the comeback effort wasn't enough.

The Prospects are back in action in Kelowna next weekend, taking on Okanagan College and the Okanagan A's.
