Prospects Fall Short in Semi-Final Game

The Prospects Academy finishes the prestigious Best of the West with a 2-2 record and a semi-final appearance vs. the Langley Blaze. The Prospects were the only Alberta club to advance to the next round. The Best of the West is a very highly scouted by MLB clubs.

On the first day of baseball the Prospects picked up a win over the Prairie Baseball Academy. The second game saw Ethan Elias throw 6 shutout innings, fanning 7 hitters, while walking only 1. Langley was able to get to the Prospects bullpen and forced extra innings where they were able to put the game out of reach.

The Prospects needed to win game three vs. the North Delta Blaze to have the opportunity to advance. The Prospects bats rallied around a stellar pitching performance delivered by Jamie Maclean, who threw a complete game shutout in the must win game. Maclean only gave up 3 hits, BB, while striking out 12 batters. The offence was led by leadoff hitter Corey Wood who went 3/4, 2B, 3B, 3 runs, and a rbi. Colten Thurrott and Travis Steinke each had good day at the plate, adding 2 hits a piece. Millar, Wiebe, and Dickson each contributed with a hit each.

In the Semi- Final match up vs. the Langley Blaze the Prospects fell short by a score of 5-2. The Prospects had their chances in the 6th and 7th as they stranded 5 base runners. Andrew Mirasty threw a solid game going 5 innings, allowing 3 earned runs, while striking out 4. Corey Wood had another good day at the plate going 3/4, 2B, 2 rbi, and a SB. Thurrott, Reid, and Millar all had big hits late in the game to produce the Prospects only runs.
