Prospects Fall Short in BOW
The Prospects Academy comes up short in the Best of the West. The Prospects were eliminated in runs for and against formula.
Game 2 saw the Prospects win 11-8 in an extra inning duel with the Parksville Royals. The offense stayed hot as they collected 15 hits. Leading the way was Zach Thibault (3-4, 2 R, 1 RBI), Nick Barrett (2-3, 3 RBI), and Evan Loranger (2-3, 3 RBI). The team offense was clicking as Hyland, Hazlett, Affleck, Muise, Burns, Lanferman, Van Snick, and Williams all contributed hits. On the mound Christian Smith threw a good game tossing 7 innings giving up 4 runs on 4 hits while striking out 5. Smith gave way to Connor Burns who picked up the win in extra innings throwing 2 innings giving up 3 runs on 1 hit and 3 walks.
In game 3 the Prospects fell short by a score of 5-4 to the tournament champs Langley Blaze. Jackson Wark got the start on the mound battling for 6 strong innings. Jackson gave up 5 runs on 6 hits with 3 BB's and 6 Ks. On the offensive side the Prospects out hit the Blaze with Lorganger (2-3, 1 R), Williams (2-4, 2 RBI), and Hyland (2-4, 2 R) having a multi hit game. Langley had the Prospects played perfectly as Darcy Affleck (1-3) hit a line drive right at the right fielder with bases loaded to record the last out of the game.
In the final game of the weekend the Prospects came from behind to beat their Alberta rivals the Vauxhall Jets by a score of 8-7. The offense couldnt be stopped as they recorded 13 hits in a total team effort. Kobe Hyland (2-3, 2B, 1 R) gave the Academy a chance in the final inning by hitting a big one out double. Mitchel Hazlett (1-4, R, RBI) had the game tying hit and Josh Williams (2-3, 2 R, RBI) completed the comback with the game winning knock. Jake Lanferman got the start on the mound going 4 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits with 3 BB's and 5 K's. Taran Oulton picked up his first win of the season closing the game out tossing 3 solid innings giving up 1 earned run on 2 hits with a BB and 3 K's.
The tournament weekend pushes the Prospects record to 9-2. The Academy will head to Lethbridge to take on PBA this upcoming weekend.
