Prospects Fall Short in Best of the West Semi-Final: Lose 15-11 to Vauxhall
In the Best of the West semi-final action the Prospects Academy lost 15-11 to Vauxhall, despite holding a 7-2 lead going into the fifth inning. In what was a pitcher's duel initially, the Prospects put up 6 runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-2 lead. Unfortunately, Vauxhall was able to get to Prospects starter Connor Burns in the next half inning. Six errors in the game also really hurt the Academy's chances of winning. Burns would end up going 4.1 innings giving up 9 runs (6 earned) on 7 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2. Luke Roberts would follow things up throwing 1.2 innings giving up 6 runs. Aidan Huggins threw a scoreless final frame.
Offensively the Prospects were led by Kobe Hyland (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Jake Fischer (2-5, 2B, 3 RBI), and Jaret Semeniuk (3-4, 3B, RBI). Damian Obrigewitch was 2-2. Matt Quartel had 2 hits, while Jacob Melville, Owen Bessete, and Connor Burns all had a hit each.
The Prospects went 3-0 in round robin play including knocking the five-time defending champions Langley Blaze out of the tournament.
The Academy is back in action next weekend down in Lethbridge to take on PBA.
