Prospects Battle Hard, Fall to Solid PBA College Team Over Weekend
The Prospects lost all four games to a very good college program, Praire Baseball Academy, the past two days down in Lethbridge.
In game 1 the Prospects lost a heartbreaker 4-3. They held the lead, 3-1, heading into the bottom of the 7th but PBA was able to muster a comeback. Christian Smith was excellent on the mound throwing a complete game, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits while walking just one and recording 2 strikeouts. The offense was led by Cody Dickson, Derek Millar, and Triffon Tatarin who all had hits and stolen bases in the game.
In game 2 the Prospects offense couldn't get much going and PBA won by a score of 6-1. Jake Keating got the start on the mound and went 4 innings, giving up 5 earned runs but also struck out 5. Zach Thibault and Jackson Wark were solid out of the pen. Cody Dickson (2-3) and Derek Millar (1-3) were again solid at the plate. Connor Burns and Gray Symington also had base hits while Ryan Van Snick had the lone RBI in the game for the academy.
In game 3 the Prospects lost 5-2, due in large part to leaving 12 runners on base in the game. Owen Renwick was solid on the mound throwing 4 innings, giving up 5 runs (3 earned) walking 2 and striking out 4. Luke Muise threw 2 scoreless innings of relief. Connor Burns led the way offensively going 3-3 with a double and an RBI. Triffon Tatarin (2-3, BB), Derek Millar (1-3), Cody Dickson (1-3) Mitchell Hazlett (1-3) and Evan Loranger (1-3) also had hits.
Game 4 saw the Prospects kick the ball around and their 4 errors ultimately cost them the game, as they would lose 13-6. Ryan Van Snick had a solid day at the plate going 2-3, while Dickson and Millar continued to swing hot bats with each of them getting extra base hits. Tatarin, Burns, and Symington all also had base knocks. Nick Barrett started on the mound and wasn't helped much by his defense. He went 3 innings giving up 8 runs with only 3 of them being earned. He walked one and struckout 2 in his 3 innings of work.
The Prospects next action is Wednesday at Legion Memorial Ballpark in St. Albert vs. FX. Game time is 5:30.
