Prospects Academy Starts Season with 2 Wins
In the cold temperatures in Lethbridge, AB the Prospects Academy won the first two games of the year against Prairie Baseball Academy by scores of 7-1 and 2-0. Sunday's games vs. PBA were cancelled because of snow.
Game 1 saw a solid performance in all parts of the game. The Prospects bats came alive in the first game collecting 10 hits and scoring 7 runs. The offense was led by Kevin Czarnecki who was 2/4, 2B, 2 runs, and 2 SB. Corey Wood and Travis Stienke each had a triple and a run scored. Taylor Wiebe, Shawn Reid, Ted Grover, and Colten Thurrott each added a hit to help the Academy score 5 runs in the 7th inning. On the mound JNT member Ethan Elias had a great start picking up his first win of the year. Elias threw 5 innings giving up 2 hits, 3 BB, an unearned run, while striking out 7. Nolan Werre picked up a 2 inning save throwing a perfect 6th and 7th getting 6 ground balls.
Game 2 came down to the wire as PBA had bases loaded with one out, down by 2 in the 7th inning. Dennis Millar picked up the save throwing 3 pitches and getting PBA to ground into a 1-2-3 double play to end the game. Andrew Mirasty got the win throwing 4 1/3, surrendering 3 hits, 4 BB, and didn't allow a run. Shawn Reid came into a big situation in the 5th with bases loaded and was able to get the Academy out of the inning without any damage. Shawn threw 2 innings, 3 K's, and a BB. Offensively the Academy only managed to collect 2 hits in the 2-0 win over PBA. Matt Morton bunted for a hit, stole 3rd and scored on a past ball which proved to be all the Academy needed to win the game. Colten Thurrott added a big double late in the game to score the other run.
