Prospects Lose in the Finals of Abbotsford

GAME 2: Propsects Academy won the second game of the tournament on a rainy night vs. the Parksville Royals by a score of 7-4. Once again Mitchell Beaudreau was the sparkplug of the offence going 2/3, run, and a HBP. Michaleski (1/4, 2B, rbi, run), Biollo (1/3, 2 SB, 2 runs), Dewolfe (2/3, 2B), and Thurrott (1/3, run) all had a hand offensivley helping score 7 runs. On the mound Keegan Hucul picked up the win going 3 1/3 allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, 5 BB, and recorded 8 K's. Andrew Minchuk came in relief to earn the save striking out 9 batters while giving up 2 BB's and a hit.

GAME 3: The Academy picked up their 3rd win of the tournament by a score of 6-3 in a heated contest with the Vancouver Cannons. Andrew Mirasty got the start on the mound and had a little trouble in the first inning but settled in there nicley to go 5 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, 3 BB, and 3 K's. Mat Craine picked up the save tossing final 1 1/3. The offense struggled early but came up big scoring 6 runs in the final 2 innings to win the game. The Academy was led by Biollo, Dewolfe, Beaudreau, and Brenholen who all came up with clutch hits late in the game.

GAME 4: Game four saw the Prospects take their first loss of the tournament vs. the Abbotsford Cardinals by a score of 4-3. Kyle Wannamaker got start and battled all game long going 5 innings alowing 4 runs on 2 hits and 9 HBP's. Dennis Millar came on in relief to throw the 6th in a tough bases loaded situation and struckout 2 to get the Academy out of the jam. Matt Biollo had a big game going 3/3, rbi, with 2 SB. Ethan Elias, Brad Michaleski, and David Dewolfe all chipped in with a hit a peice.

GAME 5: In the Semi-Finals on the Tournament the Academy once again faced the Langley Blaze in a similar situation to the Best of the West Tournament except the Academy came out on top this time by a score of 3-2. Ethan Elias threw a gem vs. the highly touted Blaze club. Elias went 5 strong innings allowing 2 runs, 1 earned, 2 hits, 2 BB, and 2 K's. Emerson Savage came on in relief to earn the save throwing the final 2 innings and recording 4 K's. The Academy managed to score all thier runs in the 3rd inning off three hits started by Mitchell Beaudreau (1/3, run, sac), Brad Michaleski (2/3, 2B, run), and Travis Steinke (1/3, 2B, K). Padon Brenholen went 2/3 with a run and David Dewolfe added a hit as well.

GAME 6: In the Finals of the Abbotsford Tournament the Propsects Academy were on the losing end of a 5-3 score against the Fraser Valley Cheifs. The game was tied 3-3 untill the top of the 7th when Fraser Valley had a 2 out double to knock in 2 baserunners and put the game out of reach for the Academy. On the mound Mat Craine got the start tossing 5 solid innings allowing 3 runs, scattering 3 hits, 3 BB, K, and a HBP. Andrew Minchuk took the loss after striking out the side in the 6th. After a BB and an error the Chiefs came up with a big double to push across the final 2 runs. Offensivley the Academy had a big 6th inning tieing up the game on back to back doubles by Biollo and Dewolfe. Thurrott and Brenholen both added a hit a piece.

 

The Prospects went 4-2 over the weekend pushing their record to 16-6 for the year. Next action wille be Fiday night vs. the St. Albert Cardinals and then they will head to Okotoks on Saturday and Sunday for a 3 game set.
